Arthur glanced at the dining room clock for the twentieth time, swearing that the hands must be going at quarter speed.
He appreciated all of the hard work his step-mother put in to the family dinners that they had every Saturday, but he was completely exhausted. Selling athletic wear wasn't a particularly rigorous job on it's own, but when it was squeezed in alongside fourteen college credits and a very demanding (but painfully cute) boyfriend, he found himself running on fumes more often than not.
As Arthur finished the last of the mushroom risotto on his plate, he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. On instinct, he glanced over at his step-brother, Merlin. The dark-haired boy smiled that kitten-and-gumdrop-smile that had everyone falling all over themselves for him. Only Arthur seemed to realize how much of a pain in the arse the boy could be.
While his father and step-mother were engaged in discussing some sordid topic (whether they should buy new blinds or not), Arthur took the phone out of his pocket. This was dangerous business; he was risking a severe telling off, and also facing the possibility of a lengthy lecture about how “dinner time is family time” from his father.
A text message popped up the instant Arthur put in his pass code.
Sweetie darling: ur cute ;)
Arthur smiled to himself; that message had been well worth the risk. He'd had to leave for work at the crack of dawn that morning, and hadn't had a proper conversation with his boyfriend all day. Checking to ensure that his parents were still droning on about the blinds (of course they were), he sent a quick message back.
Arthur: missed u so much. C u after dinner?
He pocketed his phone just as his father turned his attention toward him. The blonde attempted not to look too guilty as he answered a few questions about his coursework, feeling his step-brother's eyes on him the entire time.
After dessert, Arthur ran up to his bedroom to change into his pajamas. The number one thing he hated about family dinners was Uther's obnoxious rule about wearing your “Sunday best,” even though they always stayed home and held the dinners on Saturday anyway.
The door opened as Arthur was unbuttoning his white dress shirt. Before he could do so much as blink, he was being pulled into a tight embrace, thin arms wrapped around him like a lovestruck octopus.
“Hey, sweetheart.” The blonde said, nuzzling his face into his boyfriend's neck. He kissed the sensitive skin there, loving the way his darling became sweet and pliable under his lips.
“Not fair,” Merlin pouted, running his hands along Arthur's broad back. “You were gone all day. I had to do all of this chemistry homework, and didn't even have anyone to kiss or complain about it with.” His voice came out needy and a little whiny, which Arthur would never admit he found incredibly endearing.
The blonde pulled away slightly, standing on his tip-toes so he could kiss his sweet, whiny little boyfriend.
“Just think, next year you'll be in college. Then dad will make you get a job, and you'll have even more homework to worry about.” Arthur said, accurately predicting Merlin's eye-roll.
Apparently Merlin wasn't truly annoyed, though, if the sloppy, tongue-filled, make-you-go-weak-in-the-knees kiss he gave Arthur next was anything to go off of.
“Don't care what happens. Just wanna be with you,” The dark haired boy said between kisses. Arthur was about to pull him to the bed, when a muffled shout carried up the stairs.
In all of his excitement, Arthur had completely forgotten his true least favorite thing about family dinners.
“Dishes.” Merlin said, undressing at top speed. Under normal circumstances Arthur would've asked him to slow down (it was a truly lovely view,) but he was changing just as fast. He knew from experience that his step-mother was not at all lenient when it came to dilly-dallying, and she had no qualms about coming upstairs to fetch them.
Clad in their pajamas, Merlin leaned in for one last, quick kiss.
“Meet back up here after dishes?”
Arthur nodded, his mind already filled with all of the things he wanted to do with his sweet boyfriend.
Closing notes: As you may have guessed, Merlin still does not belong to me :). Thanks for reading!
