Merlin had a confession to make, well two actually, because how could he tell Arthur he was pregnant without telling him that he was a sorcerer. He should never had had anything to drink. His duty was to protect the king and that meant to protect him form making mistakes like the one they made the night of the eclipse. They had had a drunken night full of sex and Arthur in his drunken haste broke the vial of oil and had cut himself. He didn’t notice the air change as Merlin’s magic crackled around them. He did notice Merlin’s eyes bleed to gold, but shook his head in an attempt to gain some clarity. Arthur didn’t know it but an eclipse, blood and magic, was the perfect combination for a warlock to get pregnant.
Merlin didn’t view it as a mistake, but for the past month Arthur had barely said two words to him aside form almost yelling his orders at him.
Now he had to remind him of what took place in the royal bed. That night when Merlin had hid himself behind the red curtain on the bed in a childlike game of hide and seek and the king had fallen on the bed looking for him, pulling the red curtains down around them. Tumbling and tangled in the red curtains and matching sheets hands and fingers were busied themselves with buttons and ties. With swollen lips and swirling tongues and drunken words of wants and needs, Arthur retrieved the glass vile from the bedside table. In his haste to open it he broke the bottle cutting his fingers; the same fingers that he used to open Merlin up with while finger fucking him. Merlin knew about the eclipse and he saw the blood, he should have stopped him, but he was beyond caring, all he wanted was Arthur,
In the morning, Arthur had all but taken Merlin’s head off requesting his breakfast and it’s been that way ever since.
Merlin drew in a deep breath and knocked on the large wooden door,
Merlin opened the door
“What are you doing here? Have you finished polishing my armor? Honestly Merlin I don’t know why I keep you around.”
Merlin looked at the royal bed that had since been repaired and he felt tears threaten.
“Well? What is is!?”
Merlin closed his eyes and took a deep breath and held out his hand. A tiny blue flame appeared in his hand and he allowed Arthur to see his eyes.
“What is this?! Magic!? So you admit to bewitching me? Guards!”
Gwaine and Lancelot answered his call.
“Put him in the dungeons?”
“Sire?” they both said in unison
“I said put him in the dungeons! Is everybody betraying me?!”
Merlin was crying now as he allowed himself to be led out of the room, but not before he sobbed “Sire I carry your heir.”
Arthur refused dinner from George and he refused to tell Lancelot and Gwaine about Merlin. There was a knock on the door.
“Sire may I…”
“Gaius did you know?”
“Sire I-I’m sorry. Yes I knew. Am I to be thrown into the dungeons as well?”
“He bewitched me!”
“Sire it was the drink and your own desire for him that bewitched you,”
“I thought you were a king who cared about the truth.”
Arthur waved Gwaine and Lancelot out.
“Truth,” he laughed bitterly. “That concept is one that seems to have eluded you and Merlin and what is this he says that he is carrying my heir? Men can’t get pregnant What does he take me for a fool.”
“Men can’t. Sorcerers can and he is”
“But how and how can I expect my kingdom to accept,,, and what proof of this do you have?”
“I have conventional and non-conventional proof Sire. The herb pregnancy test and a quartz crystal, both used by your mother to confirm her pregnancy.”
“I want to see proof of this for myself. Guards! Release the prisoner and bring him to me,”
Arthur missed the smiles on both their faces.
When Merlin was brought into the king’s chamber he all but wanted to fall at his kings feet, but he remained strong and determined.
Arthur held up a hand.
“No Sire I will not…”
“Merlin,” Gaius said and the sound of his name silenced him.
Gaius had prepared the St, Johnswort, Yarrow Root and Chamomile in a bowl. Merlin walked over to where Gaius was standing and held out his hand. Pricking Merlin’s finger Gaius let a few drops of blood fall on the herbs, and they watched as tiny sparks and smoke rose form the herbs. Then Gaius took a quartz crystal on a cord from his pocket. “He needs to be lying down Sire.”
Arthur waved his hand towards the bed but turned away when Merlin looked at him.
Merlin held back the tears as he lay down on the bed and Gaius let the quarts crystal dangle over his stomach. They watched as it glowed a faint blue.
“Wh- What does that mean?”
“It means Sire, that Merlin will give you a son”
