“How long do I have to wait?” Arthur directed this to his manservant, who was about ready to rip out his hair.
Merlin gritted his teeth. “As I told you the last seven times, I don’t know. Women are women—they take time to get ready.”
“But I’m ready now and I’ve waited so long for this.”
“I know, Arthur, you just have to have a little more patience. You know women like to look their best on a day like today.”
“Knowing that doesn’t make me feel any calmer, Merlin.”
Arthur took a step. Immediately Merlin’s hand shot out to gently restrain him. “Well you can’t look impatient here either, remember? This is a big day for the both of you and you have to at least appear calm.”
Just then the doors at the front of the hall opened and Guinevere stepped through. As she began walking toward him, Arthur’s mouth fell open. She was a vision in pure white, and he found he had to agree with Merlin. She definitely looked her best and he was glad she’d gone through the effort.
“Worth the wait after all?” Merlin whispered.
Arthur simply nodded. Guinevere was definitely worth the wait.
