Author's Notes:bunnysworld started it! I blame her. Bad news
It was his only 4 doubles of scotch. Nothing to worry about really, But his beloved newly married son decided that he needed to intervene before Uther could fully appreciate the effects of a fifth glass of his favorite activity of the day.
"Father, what have you always told me about control in the face of enemies?" Arthur chided him placing a hand around Uther's glass and taking it away.
"Oh so you can listen to me? You're trying to tell me you were paying attention all those years I told you about how privileged you were and how you should never lose sight of how easily it could all be taken away." He spun from his son and walked back toward the main house of the family's estate.
He could already feel the foot falls of extra feet following his movements. A quick look over his shoulder confirmed 4 people following him. Good. Today was as good a day as any to let them all know. He quickened his pace and didn't stop until he was sitting comfortably in his study.
"Close the door Leon."
"Is he going to shoot us? You said he had firearms in his study." He heard Arthur's husband jokingly whisper to his son. It was a tactless attempt at humor, but brought a smile to his son's face easily enough.
Good. Very good.
"No. I have no intention of shooting these ungrateful children of mine. Although in about 5 minutes they both may wish I was doing so."
"Father, It wasn't right for me to put an extra burden on your plate this year. I'm sorry." Morgana apologized
"So it would have been right for you to continue your little affair with your godfather, my best friend in secret? Deny him his formal rights as a parent to my grandchild? Leon is the father, is he not?"
Leon stepped forward like the good man Uther always assumed he was. "I am the father and never would have denied my place at Morgana's side if not for her insistence on keeping the peace."
"Yes. well, the peace is fully broken and it's time I shared some news with all of you in return. Originally I placed both of your inheritances in trusts that would be released upon both of you starting your own families. These were to be relationships I hopefully approved of, but obviously not required. Seeing as how you both are now fulling vested in your new lives. It's only fitting that you both get what's coming to you. Starting tomorrow. All funds from Camelot holdings are frozen to you both. All properties will be locked down. Anything you don't have in your personal accounts shall be seized."
"You're cutting us off?" Arthur questioned with a little disappoint in his voice.
Uther made plans for this after last year's party. He had no intention of being made the fool of again. "Some would say that I am, others would say I'm sealing your fates." He knew the majority of Arthur and Morgana's financial holdings were tided to Camelot. Both of them were relatively penniless and homeless with the flick of his wrist over both documents in his hand. He had everything triple checked by Geoffrey the family attorney last night.
Uther glanced at the name again on the contracts for Arthur. Merlin Emrys it read like some horrifying bohemian. As for Morgana's he quickly amended Leon's name to the line citing the child. He would have that addition notarized in the morning. "Merlin and Leon. Read it and weep. You both now are responsible for these brats for the rest of your natural lives. You chose them, they chose you." Uther smiled handing each set of documents to the respective parties. "Good luck. You are now the executors of their estates."
Uther happily passed over the reigns of dealing with the two pains in his backside to people who may or may not know what they had gotten themselves into.
