With Merlin and Morgana's assistance Arthur gets to his bed safely, there is a lot of complaining from him, and a whole lot of fussing from them, but in the end they manage.
"Ouch," Arthur says, swatting his sister's hand away, and glaring at her for the hundred time in a five minute span. "Could you be more careful?"
Morgana rolls her eyes, and because she's clearly evil she presses the gauze against the cut on his forehead even harder, making his eyes water from the burning pain. "Do you have to be so rough? Just so you know it hurts. How are you even a pediatrician? I wouldn't trust my children to you," Arthur says, crossing his arms. "If I had one."
"I'm the best at what I do," she answers, taking off the latex gloves after finishing cleaning up the wound. "And you whine more than a kid. You're the worst patient I've had in ages."
Arthur scoffs, he feels he has the right to be a bit exasperated, he did die and all. Merlin comes back into the room carrying a glass of water that Arthur takes without looking at him, and swallowing down the pill Morgana gives him.
"Do you think he needs an MRI or something?" Merlin asks, chewing in his bottom lip.
Morgana narrows her eyes giving him a calculated look. "I don't think that will be necessary, he seems alright. He is being obnoxious so at least we know he still feels like himself."
"But, what if he doesn't?" Merlin insists.
"Bring him to the hospital tomorrow."
"Could you stop talking about me as if I'm not even here?" Arthur grumbles.
Morgana gets up from the bed letting out a long suffering sigh. "This isn't a joke, Arthur. You fell, you passed out. Just because you're feeling fine right now doesn't mean complications can't arise. Hitting your head is serious."
Arthur looks at the bedcovers, plucking at a loose thread. "Yes, I know. I promise I will take better care of myself."
"You better. You scared me and you're not allowed to. Now that my job here is done, I have to go home or Gwen will have a fit." Morgana bends down and gives him a quick kiss on the top of his head. Arthur scrunches up his nose in disgust, but he feels more friendly towards her. "Oh, and please, refill your first aid kit. It's painful to see how unprepared you are."
"Merlin," Arthur says.
Merlin nods and types something in his phone while he walks Morgana to the front door. Some of their conversation carries over and Arthur strains to hear it.
"-- any headaches, dizziness, vomit-- yeah--"
The worry in their tones is still visible. Arthur sighs, closing his eyes, he burrows down the bed and pulls the covers up to his chest. It was a weird day, a weird night and all he wants is to go to sleep and forget about it.
He listens Merlin's footsteps moving in the living room, and then coming back to his bedroom.
"Um, I think I'm going to leave too," Merlin says. "Unless you need anything else?"
Arthur peeks one eye open, the lights have been turned off, and Merlin is standing by the foot of his bed, his smile only a fraction of what always is. "You should stay."
Merlin's eyes go wide. "You-- You want me to stay?"
"You're my PA, and as terrible as you are, I might need help in the middle of the night. I mean, I almost cracked my head open," Arthur says.
Merlin's shoulders sag, he runs a hand through his hair. "Right, of course," Merlin says. "Your PA, that's why I have to stay. Okay." He marches straight to the closet and takes out a pillow and a blanket. The last thing he hears is Merlin's soft goodnight and the click of the door as it closes behind him.
Arthur doesn't dream.
