Merlin watched the young child staring pensively out the window, a lot like his father used to. It was spring now, and though it was warm enough to go outside, the young prince was forbidden from going because of his cold. Seeing him there brought back memories, most of them sad.
He remembered coming back from the Lake of Avalon, bearing his sad news to the court and especially dreading to give it to Gwen. She had forgiven him, and in a gesture of her typical kindness, had written the law freeing magic herself. It had been about that time that she discovered she was with child, bringing her joy along with the pain.
Now she had visual evidence of Arthur’s love for her, and every day they watched Amr grow. The boy didn’t lack for attention, but he didn’t grow spoiled either. He had a good heart and Merlin knew the kingdom would be in good hands through the next generation.
