He kept absolutely still as the footsteps got louder. He needed to not get caught by Morgana this time—last time had been particularly painful. It was amazing he’d held on until the dragon had come.
He pressed himself further back into the alcove, praying he wouldn’t get caught from the sound of his breathing. It seemed to be extra loud tonight, or maybe he was just that afraid of getting caught. At any rate, he needed to wait until she passed by before he could follow her. He was sure she was up to no good tonight, probably meeting with Morgause again.
Once she passed by, he waited a few seconds then followed her, being more careful this time. Fortunately she was headed to the crypts and not out of Camelot. The woods would more easily give him away.
He shrank back behind a wall as Morgause stepped forward to embrace her sister. Their plan was intricate. It would take some work, but he could foil it easily enough with Gaius’s help.
He turned to leave before the sisters found him out, and once he was away from them, he ran flat out back to Gaius’s chambers. Luckily he’d made it without the evil sisters finding out he’d been listening in on them. Tonight had been a success.
