As they left the school, Merlin and Morgana held hands. She smiled at him and he winked back at her. They were headed to their coffee/homework date, and since school ended, they were in their own little bubble, when suddenly a black car pulled in front of them.
Merlin and Morgana dropped back, and Morgana whispered, “It’s my dad, don’t make any sudden moves.”
Before Merlin could reply, Uther got out of the car. “Morgana, come with me right now.”
“Why?” Morgana said, squeezing Merlin’s hand tightly.
“Merlin is not suitable for you. I don’t want you spending any more time with him.”
“Hey, wait a minute,” Merlin said, stepping forward.
“Merlin,” Morgana said, “don’t.”
“Morgana,” Uther cut in, “come with me now.”
“No, I won’t.”
“Don’t make a scene, Morgana.”
Merlin looked around. Other students were standing behind them, whispering and pointing. “Morgana, he’s right. We’re making a scene.”
“But I don’t want to leave you.”
“Morgana, it’s okay. I understand. We have to be separate for a while. But this is the one place he can’t keep us apart. I love you, and I always will.” He leaned forward and gave her a brief kiss, fully aware that Uther was glowering at them.
Morgana whispered, “I love you too,” and let go off his hand.
Merlin watched her get into the car with her father. He felt like running home and crying. But he kept his head high and walked away, heart breaking as he went.
