Merlin had kept his word. He hadn’t told anyone they knew. But that didn’t stop things from playing on repeat in his mind. Yes, they had been drinking but not enough to say they didn’t know what they were doing. Just enough that they, really he, didn’t say no when he should have.
And god damn Arthur. He had bolted out of bed early the next morning, story all ready in case things got out. Merlin had heard him muttering, “I can just say I was really drunk.”
As Arthur pulled his clothes on he had made Merlin swear that they wouldn’t tell anyone. What choice did he have. Gwen and Morgana might have sympathized but Freya and Will would lay it out and tell him what a total idiot he was. It didn’t matter that every time they had kissed he had felt something, something that couldn’t exist.
It was just another Saturday night with his friends. He hadn’t wanted to come but they said he was spending too much time moping, that he needed to get out and socialize. But as he looked across the table at Arthur he felt like he was tied together with a tattered bit of string but it wasn’t going to hold. He knew that something was going to give somewhere, he just didn’t know what or when.
