Morgana picked up papers and slammed them back down. She ripped the cushions off the sofa and threw them across the room, narrowly missing the telly. She went into the kitchen and began opening cupboards, displacing their contents onto the counters.
Merlin, who was in the bedroom, heard a pot hit the floor. He stopped dressing and went into the kitchen, where he stopped short once he saw the devastation. Morgana was now sifting through the fridge. “What’s going on?” he asked her.
“I can’t find my keys,” she replied, setting food on the floor.
“Are they likely to be in the fridge?”
Morgana paused for a moment. “No, I guess not.” She replaced the food she’d taken out and closed the fridge.
“Can I help you look?”
“I’ve already looked everywhere.”
“Did you look in the bedroom?”
“I—“
He stepped closer and took her into his arms, rubbing her back. “You need to calm down. You’re not going to find anything in this state. Let me help you search the bedroom.”
“Okay. But we’re got to hurry.”
“What’s the hurry?”
“I have an important presentation today, and I have to be there early. If I don’t find my keys in five minutes, I’m going to be late.”
“All right, let’s get going.”
They went back into the bedroom. Merlin walked to the nightstand on Morgana’s side of the bed. He pushed aside her stack of books then looked on the floor. He picked up the keys then stood up again. He jangled the keys at Morgana, whose back was to him. “You mean these keys?”
Morgana whipped around. “Oh, Merlin, you’re a lifesaver!” She rushed over and kissed him. “Thank you so much.” After another kiss, she ran off, heading for her car.
