Merlin closed the door quietly as he entered the house. He noted that Morgana wasn’t in the living room. Good, he thought. She wasn’t in the kitchen or bathroom either, so she must be in one of the bedrooms.
He crept down the hall and peeked into their bedroom. She wasn’t there either, which meant she was in the nursery. She spent a lot of time there, daydreaming about their baby due next month.
He did indeed find her in the nursery, standing at the crib with her back to him. He moved to her and tapped her on the shoulder. She jumped and whirled around as fast as her big belly would allow her to.
“You scared me,” she said, swatting at him.
“I wanted to surprise you,” he replied.
“Well, you succeeded.” She stuck her tongue out at him. “So why the surprise?”
“Because I have these.” And with that, he pulled one arm from behind his back, which held a huge bouquet of roses. “For you, my lady.”
“Oh, Merlin, they’re beautiful!” She gathered them into her arms and sniffed them. “But what’s the occasion?”
“Does there have to be an occasion in order for me to buy my beautiful wife her favorite flower?”
Morgana smiled. “I guess not.” She tipped her head up and gave him a quick kiss. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Now, how about dinner?”
“Sounds perfect. I really did marry the complete package, didn’t I?”
Merlin grinned. “I guess you did.”
