“What do you mean, ‘we’re lost’?” Arthur yelled.

“According to the GPS on my phone, we’re in the middle of nowhere,” Merlin replied.

Arthur pulled the car over. “You mean, on our graduation from Uni road trip, we ended up in the middle of nowhere?”

Merlin sighed. “That’s what I said, three times now.”

“Okay, okay. How did we get lost?”

Merlin opened his mouth only to close it again. “I have no idea. We must have taken a wrong turn somewhere.”

“Do we have a map in here somewhere?”

“We can use the one on my ph—”

“No, that one’s too small.” Arthur looked in the various storage compartments in the car. Finding nothing, he got out and opened up the boot. “Ha, here’s one. And it’s even recent.” He closed the boot and got back into his seat. “Here, look us up on the map.”

Merlin wrinkled his nose. “Arthur, this map is from 2012.”

“It’ll be fine.”

“If you say so.” Merlin glanced at the map on his phone then opened up the paper map. He finally found where they were on the paper map. He traced the road they were on down to the road they should be on. “I see. Seems we took a wrong turn at Mould-on-the-Wold.”

“Show me.”

Merlin handed the paper map to Arthur and traced the road down again. “See? Right here is where we went astray.”

“Great! So do we have to go all that way back or is there a connecting road we can take?”

Merlin took back the paper map and searched for connecting roads. After a few minutes, he found one. “Okay. So we have to backtrack a little, but this road here,” he pointed it out to Arthur, “Connects with the one we want.”

“Great! Now get me there so we can get back on our way.” Merlin pulled out his phone. “No, use the paper map.”

“Fine. Turn around, obviously.”

Arthur restarted the car and turned it around. They continued in silence for several minutes, until Arthur said, “I’m sorry I was hard on you back there.”

“It’s fine, really.”

“No, it’s not. I really should trust you more by now.”

Merlin put a hand on Arthur’s shoulder. “I appreciate that, Arthur. I’m okay now.”

“Good.” Arthur ruffled Merlin’s hair.

“I take it back, I take it all back,” Merlin said. Then he started laughing.

Soon they we both laughing and singing along to the radio. So what if they made it to Glasgow a little late? They’d sure have a good time getting there.
