“So what are you doing for New Year’s Eve?” Arthur asked his roommate, Arthur.
“Nothing, probably,” Arthur replied, slinging another sweater into his suitcase.
“What do you mean, nothing?”
“I mean, Merlin, that my family doesn’t do anything together that night. Father’s usually busy working and Morgana’s out with friends.”
“So you’re always alone?”
Merlin stood. “Well, we can’t have that.” He grabbed the sweater Arthur was holding and began folding it. “You’re coming to my house for New Year’s Eve.”
“Oh no, I couldn’t do that.”
Merlin handed him the folded sweater. “Yes you can, and you will. You have a car, don’t you?” He tore a piece of paper from a notebook and wrote something down. “Here’s my address. We start at seven pm.”
“My mum and my friends. You’ll like them.”
“On New Year’s Eve?”
“You know of any other winter holiday in which you’re left alone?”
A slow smile spread over Arthur’s face. “You really mean it, don’t you?”
“I’ve been trying to tell you that, you nut!”
“Okay. I’ll come.”
“Great!” He clapped a hand on Arthur’s shoulder. “We’re going to have a great time.” He surveyed the pile of clothes on Arthur’s bed. “Let me help you finish packing.”
