Merlin refreshed his Facebook page. Nope, still nothing new. He wasn’t really supposed to be on Facebook, as the company thought it to be a massive waste of time. They were right, of course, but he knew practically everyone checked theirs at work anyway. Except his boss, Arthur. Arthur was a stickler for rules, and if he ever caught Merlin, Merlin knew he would probably be fired.
Just then, his phone buzzed. “Merlin, I need your help with something,” Arthur barked on the other end of the line.
“Yes, sir,” Merlin replied, “I’m on my way.”
Merlin walked the few steps to Arthur’s office and opened the door without knocking, as per usual. He saw Arthur move to close a window on his computer, but he managed to catch a glimpse of it before it closed. Facebook. Arthur had been on Facebook! He didn’t even know Arthur had an account. It had never occurred to him to look up his boss.
“Did you just have Facebook open at work?” Merlin asked Arthur.
Arthur sighed. “Okay, yes, I did have Facebook open.”
“But I thought it was against company policy?” Merlin was going to have fun with this.
“It is. I was just checking my girlfriend’s status update.”
“Your girlfriend, huh? You mean Gwen from accounting.”
“How did you . . .? Oh never mind that.”
Merlin grinned. “And here I thought you were a stickler for the rules. Ha, Arthur Pendragon, rule breaker.”
Arthur clapped a hand to his forehead. “What do I have to do to get you to keep that information to yourself?”
Merlin thought for a moment. “I want Friday off. That way I can take the long weekend to visit my mum. I haven’t seen her since Christmas.”
“Done. Oh, by the way, are you any good with Facebook?” He brought back Facebook on his computer. “I’m trying to change my profile picture but I don’t know how.”
“You’ve come to the right person for all your Facebook needs.” Merlin grinned and helped his boss with a few Facebook details. He was sure going to enjoy his time off.
