Merlin was running through the woods again, Arthur in front of him. “We’ve got to get away from these bandits,” he panted.
Arthur didn’t slow as he replied, “No kidding. And how do you propose we do that?”
“We turn around and fight.”
“You mean I fight while you cower behind a tree.”
Merlin stopped. “No, you dollophead, you fight, and I’ll use my magic.”
Arthur stopped and turned to face Merlin. “You have magic? That’s great! Let’s do this.” He pulled out his sword and took a fighting stance. “I’ll get the ones on the right; you get the ones on the left.”
Merlin raised his hand. “Thanks, Arthur, for being so understanding. I thought you’d chop off my head or something like that.”
“I have long thought that having a magic user by my side would be helpful.” The bandits roared closer to them. “Ready?”
“I was born ready.”
Merlin opened his mouth to chant his first spell when he felt a light slap across his face. He woke to find Arthur glaring at him. “Wake up, genius, we’ve got to get back to Camelot and it’s going to take all day.”
“Ahh, thanks?”
“Whatever. Now pack up camp and let’s get going.”
Merlin sighed and rolled out of his bedroll. At least he didn’t talk in his sleep—that would have been disastrous.
