Title: Interred With Their Bones
Characters: Uther, Ygraine
Summary: What did Ygraine have to say to Uther after he dies?
Word Count: 200
Prompt: 442, legacy
“And what do you think you’ve left behind?”
Uther looked out over the horizon, ignoring the voice behind him. It was getting harder to do, and he was jolted back to the present when the hand gripped his shoulder and pulled him around. The afterlife had been good to Ygraine. She looked as beautiful as he’d remembered.
“What is your legacy, Uther? A daughter who tries to kill you and our son? A son who doesn’t know his best ally is right next to him. Is this what you wanted?”
Uther ignored the tears rolling down his cheeks. “I wanted you. You and our son. I wanted to leave him a strong kingdom.”
Ygraine frowned as he reached up to grasp the hand she still had on his shoulder. “I’m not happy with you, Uther. You did so much wrong out of anger. Anger at yourself that you took out on innocent people. I want to forgive you, but you left pain as your legacy. I only hope our son is strong enough to put it to rights.”
Uther nodded, a sliver of hope blooming in his breast. Maybe if Arthur succeeded, then Ygraine would give him a second chance.
