Author's Notes: Something similar may have happened to me.
Merlin wasn’t going to do it. He wasn’t—it wasn’t his fault, after all. It wasn’t his fault, but Morgana blamed him anyway. She was going to have to apologize to him for blaming him.
***It wasn’t her fault, and in her heart, she knew it wasn’t Merlin’s fault either. She blamed him because she was scared and he was conveniently right there when it happened. She knew she should apologize, but things were so tense between them right now, she knew he wouldn’t listen.
***They sat in the A&E waiting room. They were hoping a doctor would come out soon and inform them of Ellie’s condition. She had rolled off the bed while both Merlin and Morgana had been looking in another direction. They knew she could roll, but neither of them had expected she would. Ellie had lost consciousness and they fear she may have a concussion, so they called an ambulance. Morgana rode with her while Merlin followed behind. And here they were, endlessly waiting.
Finally, after what seemed hours of waiting, they heard, “Mr. and Mrs. Emrys?”
They stood and hurried over to where a nurse was standing. “Follow me,” he said.
He led them to a large room where beds were separated by curtains. In the first bed lay Ellie, giggling and smiling at a woman, who straightened when she saw them. The nurse rushed to Ellie and kept a hand on her, while getting her to smile and giggle again.
The woman came over and introduced herself as Dr. Smith. “You have an adorable baby there,” she said.
“Thank you,” Morgana replied, “But Doctor, how is she?”
“She’s got a bit of a bump on her head, so we sent her to x-ray. Fortunately, there was no fracture and no evidence of concussion. But if she sleeps more then usual, vomits, or acts atypically, bring her back in.”
“Thank you, Doctor,” Merlin said.
“Just remember, when you have her up on places other than the floor, keep eyes on her at all times.”
“Of course,” Morgana said. Merlin nodded.
“Then I release her into your care. You may go home now.”
Merlin and Morgana rushed over to Ellie. She stopped looking at the nurse and smiled at them. Morgana picked her up and held her close. Merlin hugged them both gently before releasing them and ushering Morgana out the door.
They walked to their car in silence. Once they had Ellie strapped into her seat, they got in the car. “I’m sorry,” they both said at the same time. Merlin smiled and said, “Go ahead.”
“I’m sorry I blamed you. It was both of ours, really, for not watching her.”
“I’m sorry too. I should have known not to take my eyes off her. She’s far too precious to risk losing. And I definitely don’t want another scare,” Merlin replied.
“So you forgive me?”
“Yes. And you, me?”
He took her hands. “Let’s get her home.”
“And Morgana?” She looked over at him. “I love you.”
