Seal Sanctuary
..."and with that, I am delighted to declare the Pendragon Seal Sanctuary open," Arthur concluded his speech. His audience applauded and cheered. The brisk breeze from the sea ruffled Arthur's hair, and the red banners flying above the sanctuary fluttered merrily, each one sporting the emblem of a frolicking golden seal.
Arthur had worked tirelessly to establish and fund the Sanctuary. The new facility consisted of a considerable stretch of Pendragon-owned protected coastline, and included state-of-the-art marine research and seal pup rehabilitation buildings. The centre would also work on education and outreach in cooperation with local environmental groups.
Scrutinizing the enthusiastic audience, Arthur knew he couldn't count the ceremony a complete success unless a very special someone had been present. And yes! There Merlin was, in the back, his posture signaling deep discomfort at standing near so many humans, but his expression joyful nonetheless. Arthur's heart skipped a beat as those blazing blue eyes met his. Merlin had donned the simple t-shirt and shorts Arthur had left for him on the beach — their beach.
And with that, Arthur privately declared the day perfect in every way, with promises of even better things to come.
