Summary: Arthur comes to Merlin’s desk to borrow things all the time
Author’s notes: Not beta’d. Yay! What else is new. Sorry for the delay! Lots going on
Merlin looked up when Arthur stepped up at his desk. “Hi.”
“Hi…err…can I borrow a pen from you?”
“Sure.” Merlin shrugged and pointed to the neat little pen holder that Gwen’s girl had made for ‘Uncle Merlin’.
Arthur chose a pen. “Thanks.” He left again.
Gwaine looked up over his computer screen. “Are you really that dumb?”
“This finished the second week of ‘can I borrow something that I don’t really need from you’ from Arthur.”
“Yeah, he seems to lose pens and things often.” Merlin shrugged.
Gwaine shoved his chair back so he could look at Merlin a bit closer. “He doesn’t lose pens and things.”
Merlin frowned. “What do you mean?”
“He wants to talk to you. He likes you. This is his version of pulling your pigtails.” Gwaine threw him a look.
Merlin’s heart was beating faster. He had hoped to talk to Arthur once in a while. Arthur was nice. Arthur was…oh, who was he kidding, he had a crush on his co-worker for ages. “You think so?”
“I don’t only think so, I know. Now get up, go over, demand all your things back and then ask him to have a tea with you or something.” Gwaine shook his head. “If he hovers close one more time to ‘borrow a pen’, I’m going to scream.”
Merlin took a deep breath and got up. If Gwaine was right, he could finally get what he wanted. If Gwaine was wrong, this could become really awkward.
“Go for it.” Gwaine turned back to his screen.
Wiping his sweaty hands on his jeans, Merlin left the room, unsure if he would finally as Arthur out or if he would just return with all the borrowed pens.
