Arthur and Merlin stood back-to-back, surrounded by a horde of bandits, all brandishing their weapons and growling at them. “How are we going to get out of this, Merlin?” Arthur asked.
“Shock and awe,” Merlin replied.
“What?”
“Follow my lead. You be the shock and I’ll be the awe.”
“Okay, as long as that means I get to swing my sword. But what are you going to do?”
“It does, and just wait and see.” Merlin raised his hands. “Now!”
At the same time that Arthur jumped out to swing at a couple bandits, Merlin uttered a spell. The light in the clearing seemingly expanded, blinding everyone except Merlin and Arthur. Arthur took out two bandits while Merlin sent one flying backward into a tree. Merlin grabbed the man’s dropped mace and began swinging it around at the bandits.
“So, you have magic,” Arthur said. “We’re going to have to talk about that.”
“How about when we’re not surrounded by bloodthirsty bandits.”
“Agreed.”
Together they took out the remaining bandits, Merlin sometimes using magic. When the last bandit had expired, they stood looking at the scene, breathing hard. “Let’s get out of here,” Merlin said.
“Definitely. And on the way back to Camelot, we can have a little chat about your magic.”
“Okay.” And they took off.
