Merlin and his friends were sitting in the pub when someone had the inane idea to show off their tattoos. Merlin was against it at first, but he gradually got into it.
Arthur rolled up his sleeve to show the finely detailed sword on his bicep. “Nice ink,” someone said. It was declared “cool” when he explained that it was called Excalibur, “after the legend, you know.”
Lance pulled off his shirt to show the gryphon on his back. “I’d like to think I could slay the thing if it showed up today,” he explained. He hurriedly put his shirt back on when the barmaid began staring.
Gwaine said, “I’d show you mine, but I think I’d get tossed out if I revealed the body part.” Everyone sniggered; they knew exactly what and where Gwaine’s tat was, and he was right.
“Okay, here’s mine. It’s small though, so I don’t know if you can see it well in this light,” Merlin said. He pulled down his shirt to reveal the dragon on his shoulder. It was also declared “cool”, and Merlin grinned.
Gwen frowned. “I don’t have one, but if I did, it would be Arthur’s name.” That earned her a chorus of “awws” and a long kiss from Arthur.
“I have one, but I only want to show it to one person,” Morgana said. She turned to Merlin. “And that’s you.”
“I’m honored,” he said. “When do I get to see it?”
“I’ll show you tonight,” she whispered in his ear.
Merlin blushed; the rest of the group tittered. Morgana squeezed his hand and said, “And to the rest of you—it’s none of your business.”
They laughed and smiled then got on with their night. But Merlin didn’t forget, and he wasn’t disappointed.
