It was Merlin’s first day on the job at the chic boutique. He was surprised he’d even been hired, since he was a guy, but hey, a job was a job. And thanks to his mum, he had more than a passing acquaintance with high fashion. She loved to watch all the big shows.

The door’s bell dinged, and he stood at attention, ready to help a customer’s needs. He watched a brunette wearing sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat enter the store, in the front of a small group of people. Once the door closed, one of the people said, “Okay, you’re in the clear.”

The brunette removed her hat and sunglasses to reveal Morgana, lead singer for the rock group, The High Priestesses. Merlin’s jaw nearly hit the floor. They were his current favorite group, and oh my goodness, she was headed right for him.

She glanced at his nametag and said, “Merlin, is it? You’re cute. What have you got for me today?”

He opened his mouth to say something professional but what came out was anything but: “You’re famous.”

Morgana giggled. “Oh hon, I know. Do a good job today and I just may leave you my phone number.”

Merlin was mortified, but she’d handled his gaffe with poise. “Of course, right this way.” He led her to through the store, occasionally pulling clothes he though would look perfect on her. Surprisingly, she agreed with most of his assessments and took them to the fitting room to try them on. While he waited, he brewed her her requested latte.

When she reappeared, her posse would exclaim with delight while she sipped her latte. As she finished, she followed him back to the front of the store and laid an exclusive credit card on the counter.

“Ring me up, Merls hon. I’m going to have to bring Morgause here—she’d love it as much as I do.”

“Thank you,” he replied. He passed the slip over for her to sign, which she did with a flourish.

“Here you go, hon. I hope you have a great day,” she said. She turned with her bags of clothing, and with her posse, left the boutique.

He glanced down at the receipt. Below her signature was a number and the words, “Call me sometime.”

Oh, he’d have a great day, all right. So far, the best of his life.
