Author's Notes: I'm really not having a good week (just as well I got all my work done nice and early because life sucks right now) so it's a bit succinct and not at all porny.
It’s thick, thicker than water, so thick he can’t breathe. It’s everywhere, and he’s trapped, he can’t move, can’t see a way out of the sac or whatever it was that that creature put him in.
So he pulls his knife, slashes out, and there’s the sound of liquid rushing away.
It’s Merlin’s voice, but it’s distant. The liquid’s running of him, but not fast enough. It’s sticking to him, and he can’t open his mouth to breathe, can’t let himself breathe in, because it’ll get in.
He looks up, and Merlin’s right there. The liquid’s blocking his ears and he’s suffocating, dripping and covered and he tries to tell Merlin, to show him, but it’s too late-
And then Merlin’s hands are on his face, thumbs wiping it away from his mouth so he can open it.
“Come on, Arthur. Breathe for me.”
And he does, a deep, gasping breath, falling on Merlin for support.
“Come on, you’re disgusting, we’ll get you out of here and clean. Where did your clothes go?”
Arthur’s still panting in breath, and he shakes his head.
Merlin looks him up and down and blushes a little. Arthur looks at him and almost smiles.
“It looks good on you,” Merlin tells him, “But later.”
He takes Arthur’s wrist, and he pulls him outside, away from the- well, whatever it was this time, and he keeps his mouth clean and open so he can breathe.
