As soon as they find the hotel room Merlin’s staying at, Percy breaks the door open with a kick, and Lance, Leon and Gwaine walk inside with their guns raised and pointing ahead of them. Arthur follows, unarmed, his gun on his belt.
Merlin’s there as they expected, with only a pair of fitting jeans and nothing else, standing in the middle of the room and gazing into a computer screen.
Arthur clears his throat and Merlin’s head snaps around slowly even though he keeps passing a white towel over his damp, black hair. It seems like they just caught him coming out of the shower and Arthur doesn’t want to think what would he have done if they had come in a few minutes earlier.
“Are you gonna shoot me for being a bad boy?” Merlin says, so bloody calm despite having a bunch of guns pointing straight at him. He throws the towel to the bed and stares at Arthur, lips curving upwards.
Arthur clenches his jaw, trying not to drop his eyes down to study Merlin’s body and see if it’s still as he remembers. “No. We’re here to arrest you,” he says, grabbing the handcuffs from the back of his pants.
Merlin raises an eyebrow and then smiles and says uncaring, as if it were a joke or a game. “Oh, that.” He takes a step closer. “I thought you had come to visit. For a repeat of the other time at your—“
Arthur closes the distance between them and twists Merlin’s hands behind his back roughly, preventing him to say one more word and quickly clasping the cuffs around his wrists. Merlin doesn’t even resist or put on a fight, but he does press himself back against Arthur’s body, his hands brushing against Arthur’s crotch, teasing him. Arthur’s breath gets stuck in his throat, and he shoves Merlin forward immediately, turned on and ashamed all at once, looking to the side to catch sight of his mates watching the scene in front of them with pure bewilderment, their guns pointing to the ground now.
“It’s good to see you again, Inspector Pendragon,” Merlin says, turning around and batting his eyelashes at him, looking so genuinely harmless and innocent that if Arthur didn’t know what Merlin’s capable of, he would feel pity for having to arrest him. Arthur tries to ignore him, but hearing Merlin address him like that makes a shiver run down Arthur’s spine and his mind travel to the past.
Merlin’s too young to be such a high-level hacker. Too young to be already on the police record as one of the most wanted hackers of the entire country.
It makes Arthur’s gut twist in knots thinking about it, about Merlin’s unknown reasons to do what he does, but especially it makes Arthur’s pulse race with anger at the memories of Merlin seducing him that friday night in the pub, when they met for the first time at the bar. He still remembers the way Merlin flirted openly with him, brought him a drink and then convinced Arthur to take him to his place. He remembers Merlin’s gaze as he gently shoved Arthur down onto his bed, Merlin’s deft fingers and plump lips as they touched and sucked at his cock and pulsed inside his arse. Remembers Merlin’s luring words as he nudged his way inside Arthur’s body, as he fucked him hard and deep but still managed to look young and innocent with those big blue eyes of his. Arthur remembers how he let him stay for the night when Merlin pretended to be tired and sleepy, only to wake up the next morning to an empty bed and a note thanking him for allowing Merlin to discover all of Arthur secrets.
Arthur laughed at first, thinking how maybe Merlin had left a sappy note with his mobile number so they could meet again, but there was no number. It wasn’t until he shuffled to his office room and caught sight of the light of his computer’s screen flashing with another message that said, ‘your body felt so good under my hands, Chief Inspector Pendragon’, that Arthur realised what the note really meant. It made Arthur’s blood run cold. It made him feel used and completely foolish for allowing some type of criminal inside his house and inside his body.
And in that moment, Arthur swore to himself that he would find him. As soon as he found out who Merlin Emrys was and what he did, he made it his personal challenge to chase Merlin, arrest him, and put him to jail himself.
After two years, now Arthur is finally getting his revenge. At least.
“I heard they’re letting you out,” Arthur says through gritted teeth as soon as Merlin picks up the phone and places it over his ear. “They couldn’t prove you’re guilty.”
“That’s because I’m not,” Merlin says with a flirty smile and Arthur clenches his fist around the phone handle. They both know Merlin is lying.
“Come on, Merlin,” he sighs in irritation. “Only god knows what did you do to cover your tracks.”
Merlin laughs, and it sounds too livid, satisfied and mocking in Arthur’s ear for him to stand it. He wants to get up from the plastic chair he’s sitting on and break into that room, grab Merlin by the collar of his shirt, slam him against the wall and -
“I’ll find you and catch you again,” Arthur sneers, leaning closer to the crystal wall, fixing his eyes on Merlin’s blue ones. “You know I will.”
Merlin smirks at him, cheeky and bright, tilting his head to one side and fluttering his eyelashes. “No if I get to you first. Again,” he replies low, so his voice comes way too deep by the phone, and then he leans closer to the crystal himself. The guard in the wall looks at them and takes a step forward, hand going to the gun on his waist, ready to intervene if necessary even when there’s no way Merlin can do anything to him across a crystal wall. Arthur shakes his head to the guy; Merlin’s got a privileged twisted mind he uses to attack the most private files of the government, but he’s not violent.
“I’ll catch you first,” Arthur tells him. “It’s a promise.”
Merlin’s smirk grows larger and he nods, as if accepting the challenge. “I’ll be waiting for you, Arthur. See you soon,” he murmurs just before he hangs up the phone. He stands up, and with a last glance he turns around and approaches the guard who leads him out of the door.
Arthur stares after him, heart torn. He will see Merlin again, he knows, and maybe Merlin will manage to seduce Arthur into his bed again and Arthur will let him because he wants him. But this time—this time Arthur will be prepared for him.
