Devil in a blue dress

Morgana looked through her clothes; she had many fine dresses, the stunning red one which brought the room to a halt when she walked in, the green which matched her eyes, purple... but no blue, well, not the right shade of blue anyway.

Gwen walked into the room and saw Morgana rifling through her wardrobe

“Are you looking for something in particular? “She asked

“All these dresses Gwen, and I don’t have a blue one”

Gwen frowned. “Yes, you’ve got that blue one there in your hand”

Morgana looked at it and put it back “It’s not the right shade, its got to be, I don’t know, bluer than that”

“Bluer”Gwen repeated, bemused. “Perhaps I could go to the market later and see if I can find you some, umm, bluer material”

“No!” exclaimed Morgana, then amended “I mean, yes, but I’ll come with you, I need to be sure that its the exactly the right shade of blue that I need”

Gwen smiled back at her mistress who seemed unaware she was behaving completely out of character and told her, “All right, we’ll go after you have breakfast with your father” She started making Morgana’s bed. “Is the dress for something in particular then? Are you trying to impress someone? “

Morgana frowned “No, whatever can you mean? I just..... need a blue dress, there’s nothing wrong with that is there?”

Gwen smiled and replied "Of course not" and decided not to ask any more questions.  When Morgana got an idea into her head, she could be very stubborn.

Later that morning they both went to the market and looked at many bolts of fabric. Gwen found one stall that had some beautiful material that she would just die get her hands on, but for one reason or another Morgana wasn’t happy with the colour of any of them

They strolled around the market place looking for another fabric seller, when she spotted Merlin, who appeared to be buying supplies for Gauis, she called out to him and he came over to say hello.

Morgana’s eye’s lit up when he approached them.

“Perfect , I am in need of your services for just a short while" and she dragged Merlin towards the stall, leaving Gwen behind, gaping at them. Merlin was as clearly puzzled as she was, as she watched Morgana hold up swaths of cloth enthusiastically. She watched the two for a short while, wondering what on earth was going on with Morgana. She shrugged to herself and approached them, only to hear Morgana thanking Merlin for his invaluable assistance.

“Have you decided then”she asked brightly

“Yes, thankyou Gwen, I think that this one is the most suitable, what do you think?”

Gwen could only nod as she inspected the bolt. It wasn’t that much different to the other material they had been looking at.

Morgana wandered away, so Gwen took the opportunity to whisper to Merlin “What was all that about? She’s behaving most peculiarly”

Merlin grinned at her “I don’t know, I’m glad its not just me that everybody thinks acts peculiar, although with me everybody thinks that all the time"

Gwen chuckled  “I’ve got get going, if I’m late, Arthur will have me mucking out the stables...again!” He walked away.

Morgana appeared at her side. “Here we go, do you think you could make me something as soon as possible? “

Gwen nodded, “Yes, it will take a day or so, I’ll bring to you as soon as I have finished. Any particular style you have in mind then?”

"No Gwen, that's fine,  whatever takes your fancy”

Gwen smiled to herself, she loved it when given free rein in dress-making.

She worked on the dress in her free time for the next few days and delivered it to Morgana, who was very pleased with it, and put it on straight away.

Later that evening Morgana waited in her chambers. He came soon enough, clasping some flowers he had picked earlier, and were already starting to wilt.

“Arthur didn’t see you this time did he” she asked as she closed the door

“No, I made sure” Merlin told her as he stole a kiss and looked at her

“Nice dress”he said the corners of his eyes crinkling in a smile

“I got it to match your eyes, what do you think?”

"That was a bit devilish of you, what would happen if Gwen realised what you were doing"

"She didn't, I was careful"

"She said you were acting a bit peculiar"

Morgana shrugged and said "she doesn't suspect a thing, I handle Gwen, you handle Arthur, remember?"

“Well” he whispered in her ear, “ I'm flattered, but do you think you could take if off soon?

“Who’s the devil now?’she asked as they tumbled onto the bed, laughing.
