Camelot Dating the banner at the top of the website reads, the i dotted with a heart. But despite the emphasis on hearts and tiny cupids, Merlin knows the website has a less than charming reality. Which is just as well, because romance is not what Merlin needs right now.
“Here he is,” Gwen says, blushing profusely, “Prince of the site.”
You are now viewing ap_dragon’s profile the site tells them, handily. Merlin snatches the mouse from Gwen and scrolls down to the user’s stats. They’re phenomenal. The guy has been on twenty dates in the past month alone, and has ninety eight percent positive feedback. He’s fucking his way through the entire website.
His photos alone make Merlin drool. No nudity of course, since the site’s code of conduct bars that, but plenty of shots of a broad chest and strong thighs in underwear or speedos. The one that catches Merlin’s eye has him climbing out of an outdoor swimming pool, body twisted to stare at something off-camera. His body is wet, covered in tiny droplets that glisten in the sunlight. It’s the only photo where he’s not posing; not pouting or giving the camera a sultry gaze.
Merlin gives the About Me a quick glance, even though he’s already made up his mind.
I’m Arthur, it says, 23 and a businessman. I’m looking for a distraction. I will give you the best evening/night of your life, and I’m pretty much guaranteed to cure any heartbreak. Strengths – I pick the best restaurants and will listen to you talk about whatever you want. The rest, well, you’ll just have to find out about. Flaws – I’m not in it for the long term. Not now, not ever. I’ll leave early and I won’t call you back.
“Are you really going to message him?” Gwen asks, torn between awestruck and disapproving, “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
Merlin is. He hasn’t got laid since Will died. It’s nearly been a year, and while Merlin still loves him he isn’t grieving any more. He doesn’t want to date, not yet, and the thought of going to a bar to pull sickens him. He needs this. He needs someone as skilled, as sexy as Arthur to make him feel wanted, to make him come apart. And then he’ll settle down to having his roommate as the closest thing in his life to a relationship.
Hi, he types, You make some pretty big claims on your profile, care to show me if you can follow through?
