Author's Notes: Really sorry that this drabble is a dud, so don't expect anything. I've had a bit of an off week but I'm glad to be writing this week's drabble. At least it's not as sad as last weeks.
Stars blinked against the darkening sky as Arthur and Merlin made their way up a hill. Merlin never remembered a hill like this existing near camelot, but it was probably because you had to go through many trees and prickly bushes to get there.
"I used to come here as a child to hide from everything. Stumbled upon it by accident, really," Arthur explained.
"But why are you taking me here at this time of night?" Merlin asked.
"I want you to see it. Plus the view is fantastic. Of the sky, I mean. You could see every star out there on nights like these."
The two made it to the top of the hill, and Arthur laid down a blanket that he carried up with him, motioning for Merlin to sit down. Once he sat down, Arthur sat next to him, his arm around Merlin's shoulders.
Merlin busied himself by looking at the view. The moon was bright and full, and there really were a great deal of stars twinkling in the sky. It was amazing.
"Do you ever wish that you weren't going to be king?" Merlin asked, turning to look at Arthur, "That you'd be able to be out here like this all the time?"
"I could be here whenever I want when I'm king," Arthur replied, wondering why this question had popped up suddenly.
"No, you couldn't be able to. I know that you had to make Gwaine and Lance not tell anybody about disappearing in the middle of the night. You'll still have to do that even if you were king."
"Maybe, but I'll also be making you my court sorcerer when I'm king. I'll be full of surprises then."
"Camelot wouldn't know what to expect from you anymore."
A smile walked across Arthur's face. He leaned back on his elbows, "I suppose I did wish that I wouldn't become king. But now I've kind of accepted the fact...I don't really mind anymore."
Merlin knew that Arthur would make a great king. There was no doubt about it.
They slipped back into a comfortable silence as Merlin laid down beside Arthur, his body giving him warmth.
"You know that I love you, right?" Merlin said. He was starting to get tired.
"Of course I know that, Merlin. Now go to sleep. I'll wake you up in the morning."
For the rest of the night Arthur rested next to Merlin, watching him sleep. He was glad to share this place with Merlin, and hope to be able to come back here again sometime soon.
