"And here is the room I had as a boy," Arthur said as he showed Merlin into his room. It was a corner room on the second floor with a bay window and window seat overlooking the gardens. The room wasn't very large since this was an older home, so there was a lone cherry four-poster double bed.

"Somehow I expected more personal touches like posters or sports trophies, something that would tell me more about you as a boy," Merlin mused as he looked around the tastefully decorated room that was devoid of personality.

"Well, I spent most of my youth at boarding school, only using this room on breaks from school. Also, my father had it re-decorated after I went to uni. He's not big on sentimentality."

"I'm sorry to hear that. I would have liked to know more about young Arthur Pendragon," Merlin said as he sat on the bed, testing the softness of the mattress.

There was a knock at the door, and Bertrand's voice rang out, "Your bags, Master Arthur." Arthur opened the door and the butler brought in Arthur's and Merlin's overnight bags.

"Dinner will be served in 45 minutes," Bertrand intoned before he departed.

Morgana wasn't due to arrive until after dinner, so it was just the three of them seated at one end of the large table for dinner. The talk was stilted as Uther kept discussing Pendragon business with Arthur, leaving Merlin out of the conversation despite Arthur's attempts to change the subject.

As the dessert course was served, Arthur tried again. "Merlin, what's your opinion of the trifle? Father, Merlin is a very talented pastry chef. He's going to culinary school at present while he works at a bakery."

Uther was disinterested. "I supposed that sort of thing is of interest to you people."

Arthur had had enough. "What's that supposed to mean? Remember, I'm one of those people too." He stood up. "Merlin, let's go upstairs. I'm quite finished here."

"Arthur, it's okay. I don't mind--I've dealt with worse." Merlin tried to calm Arthur by minimizing Uther's snub.

"Merlin, you are a guest here and no guest should be so rudely treated." He pointedly stared at his father. "Father, I'm ashamed of your behavior. Merlin let's go."

Merlin looked a bit longingly at the trifle, but stood and joined Arthur in leaving.

Merlin just let Arthur rant for a while in the bedroom.

"I can't believe him. I thought he was ready to be more accepting. That was so impolite." Arthur paced back and forth in front of the bed.

"Arthur, you know this is all new for your father. I'd be really surprised if he could be totally open about homosexuality after his past track record. I think you are expecting too much too soon," Merlin counseled.

Arthur ran his hand through his hair. "Maybe you're right. I guess I'll sleep on it and try to be more understanding tomorrow. Are you ready to go to bed? It's been a long day."

Merlin said quietly, "Yeah, I'm tired too. I think I'll take a shower first though."

"Help yourself."

While Merlin busied himself in the adjoining shower and W.C., Arthur undressed to his boxer-briefs and turned down the light bed covers. It was warm still, so he padded over to the windows and opened them to let in some cooler night air. He returned to bed, leaving the bedside lamp on for Merlin.

Merlin came out of the bath dressed in his boxers only and came to the bed. He and Arthur looked each other over, neither having seen the other half-naked before. Merlin admired Arthur's well-defined muscular form, and his tanned skin complimenting his golden blonde hair. He tried not to gape but Arthur was stunning.

Arthur, on his part, was similarly affected by the sight of Merlin's pale ivory skin contrasted with his black hair sprinkled across his chest and down the tempting line leading south from his belly button. His lean frame carried wiry muscles on his arms and shoulders but he was still thin enough his ribs showed clearly.

"C'mere," Arthur urged with his arms open. Merlin climbed into bed and scooted over to Arthur. He settled in and their lips sought each other's. Arthur pulled Merlin closer with a hand behind his neck. Merlin grabbed Arthur's hair to make sure their lips stayed in contact. Merlin sucked on Arthur's bottom lip and slipped his probing tongue inside Arthur's moist warm mouth. Arthur sucked on Merlin's tongue before he moved on to taste the skin along Merlin's jaw.

There was very little air movement despite the open windows, and with the heated snogging, the lads began to sweat. Arthur, kissing his way down Merlin's neck, tasted salty perspiration. He slid his hand under the waistband of Merlin's boxers, but Merlin pulled away before they lost control.

"Arthur, no. Not tonight, not here and now," Merlin cautioned.

"Damn, you get me so worked up," Arthur protested. "But you're right. We agreed to just share the bed, nothing more. It's so warm, I'm heading to the kitchen for something cool to drink. You want anything?"

"I'll come with you. Maybe we can find the rest of the trifle?"
