Merlin knew knocking on Arthur’s door at the arse crack of dawn was mad but he had been up for hours worrying that he’d blown his chance with his flat mate and he just couldn’t wait a second longer. There was a snuffling grunt noise that Merlin decided to take as “come in.”
Arthur was in bed, obviously just woken from a deep sleep. His eyes were barely open and Merlin wished he’d thought to bring his phone for photographic evidence of Arthur’s epic bed head. That would have been weird, though, carrying a phone in his pajama pocket.
“What’s up?” Arthur asked startling Merlin out of his hypnotic hair trance. Oh, yeah, Merlin was on a mission.
“Um..so last night after the movie was over and you asked wanna go to bed?” Merlin stopped, unsure if he should continue and ruin their friendship forever. He’d been up all night wondering the exact same thing and if he was here in Arthur’s room at five thirty in the morning he’d obviously decided, so “Did you mean together? Did I fumble your pass or am I crazy?” Arthur just stared and Merlin wished he could turn back time.
Arthur looked at the clock and blinked “Idiot. It took you five and a half hours to finally figure that out?” He lifted the blankets and patted the mattress, “Come on, let me sleep a couple more hours and we can talk in the morning.”
Merlin darted across the room, crawling in between the sleep warmed sheets. Arthur tucked him under his chin easily, like they did this every night. “Thank goodness you finally caught on, I’ve been making passes for months.”
Merlin closed his eyes, humming happily. “I got here in the end.” Arthur pulled him closer as they both fell asleep.
