“Oh no. No. No, no, no, no, no.”
Several hundred feet in the air, Merlin stared open-mouthed at the dark assembly of clouds that hung over the valley ahead. White slivers of lightning flashed through the gray, and over the sound of dragon wings flapping he could hear the low rumble of thunder.
“If I remember correctly, you said you were in a hurry to get back to Camelot,” Kilgharrah said.
“Not too much of a hurry that I’d pass through a thunderstorm.”
“We could go around the mountains to avoid it, but you would not make it in time to serve Arthur’s dinner. The lightning might hurt you, but not as much as the heel of Arthur’s boot would,” Kilgharrah replied, his voice giving way to laughter.
Merlin sighed. “Alright, alright.” He took a deep breath and tightened his grip on Kilgharrah’s neck. The great dragon swooped down the valley, heading straight for the thunderstorm, still chuckling.
