Title: Trigger
Rating: G
Pairing/s: None
Character/s: Merlin
Warnings: Slight angst
Word Count: 100
Prompt: 95, One Direction's "Strong"

The song came on over the supermarket speakers as Merlin was reading the active ingredients on a spray bottle of bathroom cleaner. He fought back the threatening tears as he stood clutching his basket. It was almost ridiculous how a song could cut him to the bone.

“Damn,” he muttered, blinking. This hadn’t happened since the early 90’s and then it had been nearly three years of fighting back sobs every time he heard the intro music to “Wind Beneath My Wings.” That damn song had been everywhere. He’d had to stop using elevators.

He hoped “Strong” faded much quicker.

Aww, poor Merlin. Hopefully Arthur will return to him soon. Heartbreaking, yet the line about the elevators made me smile! :)

I'm glad that line made you smile.

Thanks for reading.

I enjoyed the scene, and could feel Merlin's embarrassment over almost crying in public because of a song. X)

I bet it would be mortifying.

Thanks for reading.

Aaah its sweet torture when a song that makes you feel so much gets stuck in your head. I can undersrand his worry. Good one!

Poor Merlin. For his sake, hopefully the song will fade away, as songs that remind someone of something sad are not fun to hear.

This song doesn't seem like it will linger, but you're right it's sad to randomly be pulled back into a melancholy memory.

Thanks for reading.

I think I already told you how much I love when you write short drabbles! You're really good at it!

This one was so heartreaking but so beautifully written!

I love writing 100 words drabbles, too! I think I'll do it with the Valentine's Day prompt on Merlin writers!
