Arthur woke with a gasp, lips tingling from slow dream kisses, remembering a questing hand burning paths beneath his sweat soaked nightshirt.
The dream had been disconcertingly vivid, leaving his heart racing, his mind a sleepy jumble. He had been dreaming about Merlin of all people. He didn’t think about Merlin that way. Ever. Arthur’s thoughts reeled.
Three flights and several drafty halls away, Merlin rolled in his cot. This dream scenario was becoming a common one: Arthur, smiling, glance bright with love, stretched out beneath him on the royal sheets. Merlin hummed contentedly in his sleep, closed eyes molten.
