Summary: Arthur's annoyed by his manservant's recent behavior
Word Count: 244
Prompt: #96 - Secret Admirer
Author's Notes: Ran out of time and the original version had gotten way too long so this one was done in a bit of a hurry.
It started with the suspicious whistling and the too cheerful greetings in the morning. Then there were the quiet, meditative smiles before Merlin turned to Arthur dazedly and made him repeat whatever he had said.
By the third day, Arthur had enough. Usually cleaning the armor would've set Merlin grumbling but today there wasn't so much as a halfhearted complaint. But worse was the fact that Merlin didn't even seem to be in the same room as him these days.
“Okay, out with it!”
Merlin blinked up at him, “What?”
“This! You've been out of it for days. Are you sick?” Arthur asked suspiciously and then cringing at how concern his voice sounded.
But Merlin stared back at him confused, “No, why would you say that?”
“Usually you don't pay attention, but lately it's gotten worse. And why are you walking around with that silly smile on your face?”
Arthur was taken aback by the blush that suddenly spread across Merlin's cheeks as he stammered out, “What smile? There's nothing.”
“Right and I'm a sorcerer.”
Merlin gave him a look before turning back to cleaning the breastplate.
It wasn't until practice the next day when Gwaine slings an arm across Merlin's shoulder and pulls him aside that Arthur learned why. Eavesdropping while pretending to inspect his sword, Arthur watched much to his annoyance as Gwaine teased Merlin.
“So is your secret admirer still sending you things?”
