Merlin contemplated the potion’s ingredients, toying with the possibilities. Arthur had been gone three hundred twenty seven years and ten days but the loss still knifed through his battered heart as though it had happened minutes before. Time and distance had done little to temper the ache. The potion promised relief but at what cost?
The mourning would be gone, but so, too, would the memories. Forget his King? Forget his friend’s love? Forget his Arthur?
Merlin sighed. Even in the hurt of having lost Arthur, there was fierce joy in having known him at all.
Merlin closed the book.
