Over the course of his life Merlin has made mistakes. Not trusting Arthur with his secret is one. Not killing Mordred earlier will haunt him forever. Not letting Morgana succumb to that poison is almost as terrible.
But letting Arthur die? That is not something he is going to allow to happen. His magic is for Arthur. They still have a destiny to fulfill: reunite all of Albion and bring magic back to Camelot. Arthur needs to live or Merlin will die trying.
He places a steady hand on Arthur’s wound and whispers “Heal.” The magic flows through them both.
