Arthur smacked his keys on the hall table, training a tight, irritated look at his boyfriend. “So I take it I have you to thank for the lecture Morgana gave me the entire ride home?”
Merlin did not look up from his book.
“It seems that by calling you a girl I’m being sexist.” Arthur ‘s voice rose in pitch and he haughtily proclaimed, “If you’re using girl in a positive way that’s one thing, but somehow, Arthur, I don’t believe that’s the way you mean it.”
Arthur put his hands on his hips and gave Merlin another pointed look. Merlin glared back, tone icy. “So, you’ve taken nothing from Morgana’s talk?”
Arthur crossed his arms over his chest and rolled his eyes, “Yes. You’re a tattletale. You know I didn’t mean anything by it.”
“Arthur, I was raised by a single mother who showed by example what it means to be strong, capable, compassionate and loving.” Merlin reached for his mobile, screen diplaying Hunith’s smiling face. “I know she’d be happy to give you a talking to as well.”
Arthur let that sink in for a few beats, finally hearing what Morgana and Merlin were saying.
“I'm an idiot.”
