Alator’s passing strikes Finna like a stone to the chest. She sags against a tree to regain her breath. “Morgana, you have fallen even further than we had imagined possible,” she sighs. The hushed woods seem to feel her pain.
“It is my destiny, Emrys, to serve you until the end. I could wish for nothing more. Grant me one favour,” the Bendruy asks.
“Anything,” Merlin answers.
“Leave me your sword.”
The stairs creak with Finna’s descent, alerting their pursuers. Good, she thinks. They can all take my face to their graves.
”Bregden anweald gafeluc,” she incants, casting the sword into the crowded room. In the blink of an eye the blade cuts through each of Morgana’s men, the last one crashing to the ground, nearly taking the Priestess down with him. Stopped by a wave of Morgana’s hand, the sword clatters to the floor.
“Impressive,” Morgana sneers, “but you are no match for me.”
There’s a quiet noise behind Finna and Morgana raises her eyes, falters, “Merlin?”
Arthur’s manservant is white as new snow, blood seeps from his side, but he is steady on his feet as he raises his hand and answers coldly, “It's Emrys to you. Swilte goldbeorth. " The sword shoots forward, finding its purpose once more. Morgana’s mouth falls open but there is no time for retaliation before she collapses to the floor, pierced straight through the heart.
Finna turns on Merlin and catches him in her arms, lowers him to the landing, “This is not how it was destined.”
Merlin smiles wearily, “I’m done with destiny, decided to forge my own path.” He winces, “but, first, do you think you could do a healing spell or something? There's still a King to save.”
