Word Count: 277
Author's Notes: Vaguely inspired by Christina Aguilera's song "Beautiful". Late and not beta'ed!
When his Mom was telling him, he was beautiful, Merlin never believed her. He never believed his friend Gwen neither.
How could he when, each day, he saw the disgusted glares people shot at him. He saw how their eyes roamed over the left side of his face, how they tried to avoid looking at him and how curiosity always won.
It had been a stupid accident… A camp around a fire with friends, a small rock, a tumble.
It had changed Merlin’s life forever.
When Merlin met Percival, I hoped for nothing more than a great friendship. A few months later, Merlin realized you couldn’t go against your feelings. However, he knew that would not change anything. Percival was handsome, gentle and funny. He could have all the guys he wanted so why would he choose someone disfigured like Merlin.
Merlin knew he was wrong when Percival kissed him in Gwen’s back garden after her birthday party.
Percival never told Merlin he was beautiful, as he knew Merlin wouldn’t believe him.
Therefore, Percival showed him how beautiful he was. He showered him with kisses… even on his left side. He worshipped his body, he hugged him when Merlin felt down and tear tracked marred both sides of his face. He left him alone in the bathroom to apply his foundation to hide the worse burns until Merlin finally allowed him to see him without it. He never acted as if these marks were defining whom Merlin was.
When Percival told Merlin, he was the most beautiful man he had ever seen and how lucky he was to have married him, Merlin believed him.
